Thyroid cancer (TC) is diagnosed in about 1% of all cancers. Recently there has been a tendency to increase the incidence of this disease, which is due to deterioration and environmental problems.
For this reason thyroid cancer is considered to be "younger". Previously, this oncology affected people of 40-50 years old, today pathology occurs in adolescents and children.

Diagnosis of thyroid cancer in Israel
With the help of center Isramedic you'll be checked within 3-5 business days, despite the fact that in other case you will have to await the results of studies for up to two weeks.
To diagnose and to obtain all the necessary information for drawing up an individual treatment plan can be carried out such kinds of surveys:
- endocrinologist, oncologist consultation;
- Advanced analyzes of blood (the general, biochemistry, electrolytes, coagulation, immunology, TSH (thyroid-stimulating hormone level test), test for tumor markers). When it is suspected medullary thyroid cancer type it is carried out a blood test for calcitonin;
- Ultrasound examination helps to determine the size, the shape of the tumor, the presence of knots, and to identify changes in the adjacent tissues;
- Doppler;
- FNA / CNB thyroid biopsy with histopathology;
- Radioisotope scanning of gland (scintigraphy) - allows you to determine the activity of tumor nodules.
The cost of the entire screening program is about 2,500 - 4,500 USD.
For patients with thyroid cancer in 4th stage who require palliative treatment it is possible to consider such option - our experts consider the results of ultrasound, biopsy taken at the place of residence. In this case diagnostics will include a revision of pathology, blood tests and consultation with a specialist. Such a program would cost $ 1,500.
Treatment of cancer of the thyroid gland in Israel
Treatment protocols for thyroid cancer in Israel in stages
Methods of treating the disease will depend on many factors, including the stage and type of the disease, and the patient's personal characteristics.
1,2 stage of thyroid cancer
Thyroid cancer in Israel in the first stage does not affect the shape of the gland, the germination of the lymph nodes and surrounding tissue.
In the second stage gland is slightly modified, but germination nearby tissues is absent.
In the early stages the treatment includes the operation hemithyroidectomy which involves excision of a portion of the gland and isthmus. This operation is prescribed in the case of well-differentiated thyroid cancer.
Surgical treatment of thyroid cancer in the first, the second stage is complemented by a 6-week course of radioiodine therapy. The principle of treatment of thyroid cancer with radioactive iodine is directly irradiated cancer cells, i.e. normal cells are not affected.
Before radioiodine therapy the patient is given a test of iodine capsule 131 to pick up the required dose. At the end of radioiodine therapy course is performed scintigraphy of the whole body, to ensure that there are no cancer cells.
Drug treatment may include receiving hormonal drugs that suppress the production of hormones.
3 stage of thyroid cancer
The third stage is characterized by tumor invasion into the capsule and the appearance of thyroid metastatic disease in the regional lymph nodes.
Treatment may also be performed by surgical methods. In particular may be performed thyroidectomy (total resection of the gland), subtotal resection (removal of the affected gland lobes and isthmus) or hemithyroidectomy. Subtotal resection is performed at a high-grade form of cancer.
Metastases are also removed surgically. In the case of high-grade forms (follicular and papillary) it can be shown treatment with radioactive iodine. Also, external radiotherapy can be administered in some cases.
Stage 4
In the treatment of the disease in the fourth stage, when the tumor has grown into nearby tissues and organs can be performed radical thyroidectomy or total resection of the thyroid gland.
After such an operation, the patient will need lifelong hormone replacement therapy. This operation is performed with high-grade tumors and well-differentiated stage 4 cancer.
When the tumor metastasis to other organs is used palliative care, which includes:
- Radiation therapy;
- Chemotherapy;
- Hormone therapy.
Prices for treatment of thyroid cancer
